The Methane Factor

At COP26 in Glasgow, The Global Methane Hub convened the Global Methane Pledge, uniting over 100 countries to reduce their methane emissions 30% by 2030. Why? While carbon emissions account for the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions, methane is orders of magnitude a more destructive greenhouse gas. The food system is one of the leading contributors of methane emissions—with the majority of contributions from livestock and food loss and waste. In total food-related methane contributes nearly the equivalent emissions of all global car and trucks.  Data is emerging on where and how to reduce emissions, and financial strategies for public and private investment are becoming clearer.
